Have questions about Volunteer Grants and Incentives? Find the answers below.

  • What is a Volunteer Grant?

A volunteer grant is a financial donation made by a company to a nonprofit organization in recognition of an employee’s volunteer hours.

Many companies offer these grants as part of their corporate giving programs. After you volunteer a certain number of hours, your employer may donate a set amount (often $10–$25 per hour) to support the organization you served.

It’s an easy way to multiply the impact of your time at no additional cost to you.

  • What is VTO?

VTO stands for Volunteer Time Off.

Some employers offer paid time off specifically for volunteering. This means you can volunteer during your regular work hours and still get paid.

  • Why use a Volunteer Grant?

Volunteer grants help turn your time into additional funding for Richmond ToolBank.

In many cases, just a few hours of volunteering can unlock corporate donations that help us support more community projects, nonprofits, and neighborhoods across our region.

  • Does it cost me anything?

No, it doesn't cost you anything.

Volunteer grants are funded entirely by your employer as part of their corporate social responsibility or employee engagement programs. You simply volunteer and submit a request through your company’s system if they offer one.

  • Do I need ToolBank to verify my hours?

    Sometimes, yes.

Many companies require verification of your volunteer hours before issuing a grant. If that’s the case, Richmond ToolBank is happy to confirm your service.

Instructions for submitting and verifying hours will typically be provided through your employer’s volunteer grant portal.

  • Who do I contact if I need help?
