About BYOG
Richmond ToolBank’s first Build Your Own Garden event is happening May 2nd, 2026 in Richmond, Virginia. This community experience is designed for families, beginners, and garden lovers alike who want to learn about ToolBank, build with expert guidance, and explore options for their garden. Attendees can build their own garden bed from scratch, buy pre-built furniture, and choose from multiple sizes, or simply attend and enjoy everything else the event has to offer—no building required.
Win a tree giveaway, shop for outdoor furniture (pre-sale and day-of available), browse a plant and vegetable start sale, and take part in interactive ToolBank tours. With prizes and giveaways throughout the day, this event brings together gardening, sustainability, and community connection in a fun, flexible way for everyone.
Registration is FREE, builds vary with pricing.

With over 3 different options, you (and you friends/family) will hand-build a garden feature that you can take home! Each team build ticket covers the cost of materials, tools, and ToolBank instruction.
1. Large Elevated Planter Bed

How many build spots are available?
Only 20 groups total. Reserve your spot!
Can kids participate?
Absolutely! We only ask that children be accomodated with adults.
How many people per build?
Up to 4 adults per group.
Do I choose my planter size ahead of time?
Yes! We have to prepare ahead of time the correct lumber components so knowing the planter size ahead of time is ideal.
Do I need to bring tools?
Nope! All tools are provided through toolbank.
If I am not building, can I still come to the event for free?
Yes! There are plenty of other things to do at this event and we encourage people to still view the action.
