RICHMOND, VA — June 30, 2026 The Richmond ToolBank warehouse was full of paint, sawdust, and nearly 100 volunteers during Altria’s colorful day of community service. In partnership with the Community Foundation for Greater Richmond and local mural artist Hamilton Glass, the massive effort focused on decorating and revitalizing ToolBank’s Southside Tool Hubs to better serve the Southside Richmond community.

Destined for Broad Rock Sports Complex on Southside Richmond, volunteers spent the day applying vibrant designs for vibrancy and representation of the projects, volunteers, and hard work that resonates with Richmond ToolBank’s mission. As volunteers painted inside the ToolBank’s warehouse just off of 64, others assembled and constructed picnic tables outside to be donated to nonprofits in need with Richmond ToolBank’s Building Change program.

These vibrant hubs will serve as a lasting resource for Southside neighborhoods and for our community onward" said Richmond ToolBank crew member.

Amplifying Community Voices Through Art

Central to the project's success was the leadership of Hamilton Glass, a Richmond-based artist renowned for crafting large-scale public murals and collaborative projects that amplify community identities. With his guidance, volunteers transformed the hubs into bold visual landmarks representing Richmond ToolBank’s community-based organizations and the work they do..

Glass’ artistic works can be viewed and admired in Richmond, VA, Pittsburgh, PA, Virginia Beach, VA, Silver Spring, Maryland and other regions. Stemming from a background in architecture and design, Glass was an invaluable asset to crafting Altria’s project day.

Richmond ToolBank is incredibly proud to partner with Glass, Community Foundation of Greater Richmond, and Altria to merge functional community resources with inspiring public art for Southside Richmond.

Collective Volunteerism

Altria’s Southside ToolHub project demonstrates the lasting impact that volunteer efforts can have on our community.

Richmond ToolBank’s community-based organization project sites range all throughout the Greater Richmond area. When community members from Southside Richmond travel to the ToolBank, it can take up to an hour round-trip to pick up and return tools for their projects. The implementation of Southside ToolHubs lessens transportation barriers, time, and efforts.

The Southside Hub Murals now shine bright, standing as a testament to what can be achieved when corporate citizenship, artistic vision, and non-profit dedication align.
